I've been told that a .22LR Remington gold HP punches a hole in the skull. However, once mushroomed, it does not have enough power to escape, so it just bounces around inside the cranial vault, randomly scrambling brain matter. Worse, the gilt flakes off the bullet, and reduces the chance of a ballistic match.
