The most frightening aspect of this great social experiment is realizing how much abuse the populace will endure without exploding into a full-blown revolution. I had expected blood in the streets by now. I thought the Latins were more hot-blooded than that. Socialism needs a violent overthrow!

At the former price of about 86 cents per pound they couldn’t cover the cost of production?

“Flour is one of the most scarce food basics, and the Venezuelan Association of Corn Flour Industrialists has been asking for a price increase, arguing that the low government-set price does not cover the cost of production.”

I can buy corn meal/flour here for 50 to 70 cents per pound retail.

We have to study Venezuela to prepare for what either Bernie or the Hilldebeeste will do to the US.

Even if farmers got this increase in price about the best you can do is 60 to 100 days if it is prime growing season and you have the rain.

I was reading a little bit about how they expropriated most of the farm lands and gave them to non-farmers,LOL. I say that as a farmer who has watched people with a little bit of money who fancy themselves as farmers come and go. It is such a waste of time and money and most of them think they will show us how it is done. I can’t name one who has succeeded.

Harina Pan - the absolute staple of the Venezuelan diet. Makes arepas, empanadas, all kinds of yummy stuff. We still have arepas every Christmas morning, 40 years after coming home. Hell, toilet paper is more dispensable than Harina Pan!

Too true. I recall that Chavez was once arrested in a coup, but the durned fools turned him loose after a couple days. Talk about a missed opportunity to repeal socialism!
