They keep speaking of this “lesson”, as if we had an infinite amount of time for a do-over, and failure to learn the consequences of the “lesson” would not be catastrophic.
There are only a few ways to get out of the way of an avalanche, and I do not believe this course of action would be effective.

The order was to PAUSE the advance near Oppenheim along the Rhine, and wait for Montgomery to catch up. Patton said later he should have smashed all his radios and made the surge anyway.
Patton would have utilized the captured German troops, armed them as provisionals, and not stopped the advance until he was in Moscow. Darned right the Allied High Command were collecitvely crapping their pants.
