Incredibly bad journalism on Trump from Politico, The Independent, The Hill, ThinkProgress (Vanity)
Politico, Independent (UK), The Hill, ThinkProgress, Vox, ITV, Telegraph (UK) | 6/1/2016 | self (vanity)

Many publications are falsely claiming Trump is totally ignorant and blank on whether Britain should leave the EU or not ("Brexit").

The logic is that Trump saying "huh"? to a single word verbal question (that might not have been enunciated well or heard clearly with Trump's 69 year old hearing) is proof of ignorance on the subject, showing a lack of foreign policy concern and awareness.

Yet a 10 second google search reveals that Trump has commented on "Brexit" several times in the recent past.

It seems a 10 second net search is too high of a journalism standard when taking down political enemies.

THE INDEPENDENT (UK):

"Mr Trump has revealed his modest knowledge of world affairs may also extend to some of the US’s closest allies."

POLITICO:

"Brexit might be the most pressing issue in Europe, but it’s not registering with Donald Trump." "Wolff wrote in the piece that Trump’s “lack of familiarity with one of the most pressing issues in Europe is for him no concern nor liability at all.”"

THE HILL:

"Donald Trump appeared confused when asked about Britain’s potential exit from the European Union in a new interview.

The GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee stumbled over the "Brexit" concept during an interview"

It is hard to believe this author from The Hill didn't even bother to check his OWN PUBLICATION'S coverage of Trumps May 5th Brexit commentary, disproving his false narrative.

THINK PROGRESS:

"Donald Trump Actually Does Not Know What Brexit Is" "In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday morning, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump appeared to be flummoxed by a question about the United Kingdom’s upcoming vote on a potential split from the European Union."

VOX:

"What Trump’s bizarre Brexit comments actually reveal"

Vox author insists that Trump saying "huh?" to a verbal question on "Brexit" can only mean that he doesn't understand what the word means. The author totally excludes the possibility that the interviewer didn't enunciate the word in a clear or familiar way, or that it simply wasn't heard well (Trump is 69 years old).

While the Vox journalist totally betrayed the most basic professional standards by leaping to this assumption, he did manage to use the word "portmanteau" in a sentence to help him feel elite and superior. He at least deserves credit for admitting Trump commented on the subject in the recent past unlike the others above. He never does explain the claim in the article's title that Trump's opinion is "bizarre". What bizarre journalism!

TRUMPS RECENT COMMENTARIES ON THE SUBJECT that he supposedly is completely unaware of:

March 21, the Telegraph: "I think they (Britain) may leave the EU, yes, they're having a lot of problems. "I don't want to make a comment about the UK leaving but I think they may leave based on - I'm there a lot, I have a lot of investments in the UK and I will tell you that I think they may leave based on everything I'm hearing." Asked if he thought Britain would be better of if it left, he said: "I don't know, you'd have to ask them. I just think they may leave."

March 16, ITV: "...adding that, if he were to become president in the November elections, a U.K. outside of Europe would not be put to the "back of the queue" as President Barack Obama had threatened a few weeks back.

"I am going to treat everybody fairly but it wouldn't make any difference to me whether they were in the EU or not," Trump said. "You would certainly not be back of the queue, that I can tell you."

Trump said that the EU is "very bureaucratic and very difficult" and has been a "disaster," according to the interview.

"I think maybe it's time … in light of what's happened with the craziness that's happening with the migration, people pouring all over the place."

May 5, Fox News: In an interview with Fox News’s “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Trump said the influx of Syrian refugees should convince the U.K. to exit the EU.

“I think the migration has been a horrible thing for Europe,” he said. “A lot of that was pushed by the EU.”

“I would say that they're better off without it, personally, but I'm not making that as a recommendation, just my feeling. I know Great Britain very well. I know, you know, the country very well. I have a lot of investments there. I would say that they're better off without it. But I want them to make their own decision.”

March 24th, ITV: Asked if now was the right time for Britain to quit the EU, Mr Trump said: 'Yes, my mother was born, as you know in Scotland, in Stornoway, and she loved Scotland. 'She loved it more than anything, she'd go back every year religiously with my sisters and just had a great feeling for it and a great love for the people of Scotland and I think that Britain will separate from the EU. 'I think maybe it's time, especially in light of what's happened, with the craziness that's going on with the migration, with people pouring in all over the place.

'I think that Britain will end up separating from the EU, that's my opinion.

'I'm not endorsing it one way or the other but that's my opinion. I think a lot of people want to see that happen.'

I’m sure they are trying to pay him back for his masterful take down of them the other day. They will lose yet another round.

Meanwhile Obama still doesn’t know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

“Brexit” is just one of many catchy New expressions made up to describe something. Whether or not Trump didn’t hear the phrase correctly or doesn’t keep up with all the catchy stuff the media makes up, he does know all about the real issue, Briton leaving EU.

Hillary just doesn’t allow anyone to ask her questions so we won’t know how ignorant she is.

ThinkProgress doesn't do journalism in the first place. Vox doesn't do journalism in the first place....
