The law firm suing Trump University was founded by a wealthy San Diego lawyer with close ties to the Clintons who served a two-year sentence in federal prison for his role in a kickback scheme to mobilize plaintiffs for class-action lawsuits.

William Lerach, best known for winning more than $7 billion in legal settlements of a class action suit he brought against Enron, was found guilty in 2007 of a kickback scheme in which he his firm used intermediaries to pay clients with large stock portfolios a percentage of the law firm’s $11.3 million profits for agreeing to be plaintiffs in 225 class action and shareholder lawsuits, spanning the period 1979 to 2005.

Lerach’s former law firm, the once prestigious New York-based Milberg, Weiss, Bershad & Schulman, made an estimated $250 million in the criminal class-action scheme.

WND reported documents released Wednesday in the lawsuit accusing Trump University of fraud confirmed the law firm behind the suit paid Bill and Hillary Clinton a total of $675,000 for speeches.

He’s a felon, but still a lawyer? If I am convicted of a felony, my license (real estate sales) goes bye-bye.

I remember this guy from about a decade ago. Any time a company missed earnings estimates and took a stock market hit, he would initiate a class action suit against the company.

Well, being a felon kind of puts a taint on things. One need not be a lawyer, to have ties with the kind of “research” that goes into building a case against a particular target of legal action. This person may not have a license, but he still knows a lot of the ins and outs of the law sufficiently well to be able to assist others, who presumedly DO have a valid license to practice law, in negotiating the pitfalls and interpretations of clauses, to build a case, however specious it may turn out to be.

In law, you need not necessarily win to make your case with the public. Get all the fools on your side, you got the majority in any town.

FWIW, Trump University is not the hill to die on.

Did Trump U provide top notch “Real Estate Investing” education?

More than likely YES.

Did they encourage people with little education, experience or money to enroll?

More than likely YES.

I am personally very familiar with these types of “Sales Organizations” and how they operate. They sell “education” and it is up to the student/graduate to put that education to work. In reality, most people can’t follow the rules that they are taught and it is nearly impossible to know who actually can. I’ve always said “Anybody can do this, but not everybody”.

The prosecutors in this case will have to insist that Trump University should have known better. That they should have literally discriminated against certain prospects.

Not the “hill to die on”?

Trump will/should win in court, but may lose in the media that is dominated by people that promote victimhood.
