Iraqi Army Seen as Ill Equipped to Retake Mosul From ISIS, Despite U.S. Aid

WASHINGTON — An exhausted and ill-equipped Iraqi Army faces daunting obstacles on the battlefield that will most likely delay for months a long-planned major offensive on the Islamic State stronghold of Mosul, American and allied officials say.

The delay is expected despite American efforts to keep Iraq’s creaky war machine on track. Although President Obama vowed to end the United States’ role in the war in Iraq, in the last two years the American military has increasingly provided logistics to prop up the Iraqi military, which has struggled to move basics like food, water and ammunition to its troops.

Without the help, Americans commanders said, the offensive against Mosul would most likely fail.

Americans are ferrying equipment and spare parts directly to the battlefield by cargo plane, helping arrange purchases of ammunition for Soviet-era equipment and pressing the Iraqis to adopt measures to improve a supply chain that would run over 200 miles from Defense Ministry depots in the Baghdad area to Mosul.

But no matter how hard the Americans push, the Iraqis can go only so fast. The pace of ground operations is likely to become even slower in the summer’s searing heat and during the coming holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims often fast during the day. Much of the Iraqis’ equipment needs to be repaired or replaced, and many Iraqi units will require additional training before attacking Mosul.

There is no innate heart in a turd worlder for fighting for freedom and independence

You can teach them the alphabet, rules of grammar and have practice sessions .... but they will still talk like babies

We've given them money, equipment, training ..... everything a people desirous of winning could want or need .... and they just can't do it

Pack up guys ... move out ... and sleep peacefully for a job well done ... you did your part

YES WE CAN just walk out on them

The worst part of the Iraq debacle is the (bleeping) Democrat pullout; while the SECOND worst was Bush putting BrennentheMuzzie in charge of writing their Sharia Constitution.

FUBAR from the git-go.

ISIS, and its diseases and Hate, are being brought
to America by the lying GOP and Obola, Quartered
by DH”S” using local police.

The Pentagon, instead of destroying ISIS and al Qaeda,
now protects both, just like it protects Hasan
and his protectors.

Under the teaching of Islam, freedom and independence are foreign concepts and even dangerous ideas to contemplate...

In the ideology of submission, there is no room for them...

Just came across this on Twitter this morning while looking at the hashtag #honestyhour. Not sure but it looks like the account holder and someone else he follows have been banned before, and from a look at the account, especially in translation, seems to be pro-ISIS. Definitely pro-Islam/against everything and everyone else, and at times he/she is posting "warnings" about things to others.

Obama has no intentions of destroying ISIS. He helped create it.

But if the US armed and supplied the Kurds,,, they would totally defeat ISIS. And although Communist at the community level (not Globalist) they are reliable allies. That is why they have only been minimally helped to this point.

At the end of the day, you probably need someone as brutal as Saddam Hussein to rule Iraq. I’m sure the penalty for being a coward or deserter in his army was death. And that is the most effective way to maintain discipline with this bunch.

Have just been looking at all sorts of accounts from ISIS supporters, if not ISIS fighters (one profile picture is a man apparently with a suicide belt). Twitter keeps suspending their accounts and they make new ones.

Seems from all they post that Twitter is way behind on keeping ISIS off its service, so that the suspensions hardly stop them.

It’s hard to believe Twitter can’t do more about it, really.

Yet they will be cracking down on “hate speech,” including “racism,” in Europe, and that will most likely include just expressions like “Islam is a false religion.” And they will be wanting to bring such censorship here.

The problem with Iraq is the Shia. Shia arabs are the peasants of the Arab world and are incapable of fighting, ruling, and organizing effectively. For a stable Iraq you need to put the bloody but capable Sunni's in charge.

I thought it is the Sunnis who were allied with Saudi Arabia, and have failed totally at protecting their cities from ISIS. Wouldn't it be better if Iraq split into at least three parts?....Kurdistan (which would include their areas of Turkey), Sunni, and Shiite dominated areas.

The other thing is Syria. If Russia can keep it intact, that's fantastic. It'll keep ISIS and their friends Turkey from having a corridor to the Med. Besides that, it's a buffer that protects Lebanon and Israel.

That's my understanding, anyway, from trying to follow the Mideast mess the US and our allies have created. Biggest problem? Our allies are the bad guys, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

Please, correct me where I err.

Remember 10 years ago when we denigrated conservatives who didn't want to go into Iraq?

Yeah, we're eating crow. We should have never invaded Iraq.

"The Russians will step in here soon too."

The Russians will destroy ISIS. There would not be much of Mosul left, but Russian brutality is what is called for throughout the Middle East.

ISIS is the Sunnis. Which is why they are so very effective in combat against the Shiite state of Iraq.
