The Longest Day!
I met a guy who was with UDT. He said his team swam into the beaches at night and placed explosives around the big steel blockades then swam back. If I recall, he had a mask and fins, a swimsuit and a .45.
He later boarded a landing craft and was shot on his way to the beach.
Indeed, the longest day.
