Food riots and violent looting have become a daily occurrence across scarcity-struck Venezuela and a major problem for the struggling leftist government of President Nicolas Maduro.
Despite hours in lines, Venezuelans increasingly find that coveted supplies of subsidized flour and rice run out before they can buy them. Many are skipping meals, getting by on mangoes stripped from trees - or taking matters into their own hands.

How can there be a food shortage? If everyone receives an equal ration, there should be more than enough food left-over, right?

That’s the fallacy of socialism. They envy the wealth of what they think are “the elite” and want it. The curious thing is that the government they install always takes it and what’s left of “the wealth” is a peoples who have no idea that the ‘wealth’ they lusted after wasn’t money. It was work, production, value - substantive things that involved effort.
There always comes the point when socialism - that entity that panders for the common selfish early on - finally determines it doesn’t need their votes to continue. There’s always someplace to escape to with the wealth and power. Leave the peons to fight amongst themselves over candles, toilet paper and scavenging dibs at the nearest dump.
Not all of them voted for this regime, or the previous one either.
Maybe the minority should do something about it. If not, tough luck.
