Agreed. A town near us just hiked taxes on a whole range of items such as food and drink at restaurants. Reportedly, few people showed up at the Council meeting to protest, and what objections were raised were mainly perceptions of how certain businesses would share more of the load than others.
No one stands up, reads out a list of the tax increases for, say, the last 20 years, and says “where, and in what manner, does this end? (I am reminded of the episode of Babylon 5 where Centauri Ambassador defends expanded Centauri military attacks against their neighbors as (paraphrasal) “we are merely creating a buffer zone.” Capt.
