I figured either his handler was in the head or he was off his meds when he made that comment.
It also occurred to me that his polling in AZ was bad.
That's the only thing that makes sense to me - a test balloon for improving his internal polling. No immediate improvement, so he walked it back. NOTHING is more important to McCain than that Senate seat.
