[[A staggering 87 percent of Venezuelans say they do not have money to buy enough food, the most recent assessment of living standards by Simón Bolívar University found. ]]

Venezuela has fertile soil and perfect climate to grow tons of food Venezuelans are starving it is because they remain in the city waiting to be fed by their government instead of walking out to the country and starting to grow their own food.

Almost all of them live in ONE city and they sit there and starve .

You can’t do that.

The socialists in power seized all the farms and gave the land “to the people” - actually lefty cronies.

If you touched or started to farm that land you would be shot by solider or the police.

It would be much the same in the United States. There are already tens of millions of city people who are dependent upon the government for their food through the food stamp/EBT program. If those cards quit working, very few of those city folks will head to the country. That’s like a whole different scary world to them. They’ll remain in the cities waiting for more hand outs, and when they do not come, they’ll riot and loot. If some kind of supply system isn’t reinstated (What delivery truck driver would want to drive into an area of rioting mobs?) many of those who are starving will FINALLY start taking direct measures to feed themselves by resorting to cannibalism.

No it is because if you grow food the government will come in and take it.

The is no up side in expending the calories to grow food if you know you will never be allowed to eat it.

Sugar fields in the country’s agricultural center lie fallow for lack of fertilizers.

What, like they can't grow anything without chemical fertilizers? That sounds like a load of manure. Oh, wait, that load of manure is great fertilizer. Till some into the soil and they'll have sugar.

A couple days ago, there was a thread about a farmer who's family was supposedly starving. Their picture looked healthy enough and the wife could stand to lose some pounds. He was growing corn, beans and potatoes but claimed it wasn't enough. Funny how he had a satellite dish on his roof and what looked like big bad speakers in the living room. He said there was nothing in the fridge but it was plugged in. Outside the home there were flowers growing and lots of bare land that could have been planted with food if they were truly going hungry. He also said there were bugs in the corn, well, his half dozen kids could have been out there picking the bugs off, weeding and watering just like I do. Sorry, while there are troubles there, I'm not believing half of it. If your kids are starving, then you do not have flowers and bare land.

They'd be violently driven away from those rural properties and back to the city. And notice what has been done with recent regulations in much of our U.S.A. It's illegal in many counties in many states to camp on one's own large, rural property, even to build a house.
