House Republicans pushing gun control bill

Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.) is spearheading gun control legislation that would keep firearms out of the hands of suspected terrorists, but it is unclear whether Republican leadership will give the bill a vote.

The Terrorist Firearms Prevention Act announced Friday will serve as a companion bill to the compromise gun legislation introduced by Susan Collins (R-Maine) in the Senate.

The gun legislation would prevent suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms.

The bipartisan legislation appears to have Democratic support and is backed by a handful of Republicans, including Reps. Bob Dold (Ill.), Scott Rigell (Va.), Peter King (N.Y.) and Curbelo.

“Some of our colleagues say this is all about terrorism,” Curbelo told reporters at a Friday press conference. "Others say this is all about guns. We are coming together to say this is about keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous terrorists."

The bill comes after House Democrats this week staged a sit-in in an attempt to force a vote on gun control legislation.

Under Curbelo’s bill, the attorney general would be empowered to block roughly 3,000 suspected terrorists who are on the no-fly list or selectee list from purchasing firearms, lawmakers said.

The legislation would also include provisions to swiftly remove people who are wrongly placed on the no-fly list and recoup the legal costs they spent defending their Second Amendment rights.

Curbelo spoke with House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) chief of staff about the legislation earlier in the week, while Rigell, who is also backing the bill, plans to meet with the Speaker’s office today.

The gun legislation would prevent suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms.

Who/What ... defines "suspected terrorists'? If the definer is the Democrat party or activist judges, then all: Christians, Republicans, Conservatives and 2nd amendment advocates will be deemed "suspected terrorists".

A practical law to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists would be to define Islam as incompatible and a threat to the U.S. and our Constitution. As such outlaw its practice or adherence in the U.S. Require all Muslims to be deported to their Muslim country of choice.

I’m ready for Representative Control.

Fail your oath to defend and support our constitution, and you are hereafter banned from any political office and any governmental employment.

Agreed. They don't get to take our rights away based on mere suspicion. And they don't get to define "terrorist", else it would include all caucasians, all Christians, all global warming skeptics, all Republicans, etc, etc, etc.

Not all sound like foreigners but like normal Americans-

either way, due process is the law of the land. Whether they like it or not.

The horrible irony of all of this is that the DemonCraps and other gun grabbers like this fool react to terrorism and crime by trying to strip law abiding patriots of their ability has to defend themselves against those very terrorists and criminals.

Really! A law that will keep firearms "out of the hands of suspected terrorists" That's AMAZING! I wonder how it's going to keep suspected terrorists from buying firearms like every other self respecting criminal, on the street corner or just having a jihadi friend or relative that isn't on the watch list make a straw purchase???

The logical answer is to keep dangerous terrorists out of the country. Kick out the ones already here.

It amazes me that any sane adult would make an idiotic statement like that, like you I know there’s no law that’ll keep guns out of terrorists or criminals hands.

Yes, suspected by who and for what reason? Oh wait they don’t have to disclose that.

Blood has already been shed. War HAS begun. We’ve been kept occupied with bread and circuses. The time is now and the place is here.

As events unfold we will better understand what needs to be done. Do not be fooled. The hand of God is at work here.
