Crud, I misread that it was a sales tax shift rather than a shift from income tax to sales tax.
My post immediately above is amended to now say I oppose this approach.

It disgusts me that as gasoline prices were falling recently our Democrats here in NJ basically asked, “Why pass this savings on to consumers? We can add taxes now and they wouldn’t notice it much...” (due to market conditions).
The idea of us little people having a little extra in our bank accounts bothers them greatly; they have decided what our standard of living should be, and having a little extra discretionary income instead of forking it over to them is messed up (to put it nicely).
