Ah, reporters. This one was simply determined to run with a Game of Thrones trope and sensationalized as necessary to flesh it out. That’s what happens when you think of an eye catching lead that doesn’t fit the facts of the story. The sun has a relevant eleven year cycle. Check. We’re coming up on a minimum. Check. This particular minimum is going to be the worst in 500 years. Really? Why? Oh, never mind; cut to picture of Jon Snow in a snowstorm. This is what the modern American audience substitutes for evidence.

Cold - grow food in the south.
Warm - grow food in the north.
Problem solved. Next!

For once they realize the sun drives our weather.

Who's they? We've been told for decades that the science is settled and anyone who does not believe in man made global warming should be silenced.

If we do enter a cooling spell, the "settled science" will either deny it or take credit for it. They view themselves as gods.

Yes, but they are concerned with where the cycle peaks are going.

I mainly use the sun as a directional aid and a timepiece. As long as a dragon doesn’t eat old Sol, I’m good.

This is another “global warning hockey stick”. Take a look at the same graph, but go back 100 years. It’s convenient that they started in 1985.

Arrogant humans think they somehow can control the weather. The planet cools, warms, cools, warms, and has been doing so for much longer than man has been leaving a “carbon footprint.”

Oh and this is news?

I visit solarham.net daily, great site.
This is a natural cycle, solar minimum is now in full swing.

On an off note the Carrington event occurred during a solar minimum cycle.

Here you go - the notional Cycle 25 blip can be ignored.

The article is silly, granted, but it won't take much more of a drop to put us in Dalton Minimum territory.

As I’ve said on other posts about this....

In 2009 the sun was blank for 260 days of the year. In 2010 there were 50 days without spots.

2008 set the second record low, 266 days vs. 1913’s 311 days.

So I must say the current span is insignificant.

The question is has the last glaciation really ended and we are in between major glacial periods or is TBS a lull in the last glaciation.

Back when I took upper level geology course that covered this time period.

(Aside: A time when Al Gore was so stoned he was flunking out of law school! Yes he did flunk out of both law & divinity schools! He is that stupid, lazy and or stoned likely all three! We definitely should listen to him!/sarcasm)

My professor who liked making controversial statements said, ‘From his perspective climate-wise the earth was primarily a cold planet punctuated by periods of temperate climates. That's when civilization happens!’

Looks like global warming/climate change has finally reached the sun. When oh when will we ever learn?

We need to do something, quick! Let's all drive electric cars, only install solar and wind power, destroy the production of "fossil" fuels, spend trillions on light rail systems, put draconian regulations on carbon emissions, and throw everybody in jail who doesn't believe in global warming, er, cooling.

That should do the trick.

Not drawing any conclusions and I’ve seen it back to the Maunder Minimum. There was no pattern like this before that but they seem to think it’s leading to another Maunder Minimum.
