Our organizations and many others have called on Congress to provide the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with funding for research into the causes and prevention of gun violence. In addition, we published a joint editorial on gun violence in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
These unspeakable acts highlight gun violence as a grim and increasing public health epidemic that kills approximately 91 Americans every day. THIS MUST STOP.

Doctors and other health care professionals reportedly kill about 251,000 people a year due to mistakes or carelessness. Statistically, you are 21 times more likely to be killed by a medical error than a firearm.

Iatrogenic deaths kill far more people than guns do each year.
Iatrogenic deaths per population are increasing, while deaths by gun,per population are falling.
Given the physician to patient ratio versus the guns to population ratio, guns are far less likely,to kill you than a doctor
