Takeout food? Yeah! That's just the ticket! It's about as good excuse as consumerism to explain the economic woes of Venezuela.
A few weeks ago reporter Nicholas Casey of the New York Times almost completely avoided any mention of socialism and placed the blame for Venezuela's economic woes on a vague "consumerism" during an interview on National Public Radio's Fresh Air as chronicled in Newsbusters by Clay Waters. Since that "consumerism" excuse seems to have been widely mocked, Casey went to bat with an even more laughable excuse, comparing Venezuela's economic woes to someone who has been ordering takeout food for years and suddenly needs to cook. I kid you not. Here is the money quote from Casey avoiding the very obvious while being interviewed on PBS Newshour:
(Excerpt) Read more at newsbusters.org ...
There is no consumerism in a socialism. There are no products to consume.
No. Essential supplies are literally, and lethally, inadequate. It’s not that they’ve forgotten how to cook it’s that there is nothing to cook, no way to obtain it, and evil men with guns will threaten or actually kill them to take any food obtained.
We’re talking about the bigger picture, in which the people gave the nod to this evil regime because it was serving up their bread and circuses.
And now that its inefficiency has made everything scarce, why of course it is going to look out for itself first. However even yet they are not a total omni-police. The people are in a stupor and in psychological enslavement to it. In longer term communistic situations like Russia, the people learned various coping mechanisms.
If the waste would stop, the inadequacy would probably cure itself rather quickly.
Why isn’t supply greater? Because resources are going to waste, not enough economic input to them to keep them going.
We can go deeper than the immediate picture of supply.
All of the mechanism’s of distribution have been crippled by nationalization.
Surprising that they even mentioned Venezuela ... they’ve been avoiding it like honesty, morals and ethics in the Democratic Party.
Well yes, it is a situation of choking, by government busybodies who claim to know better.
Evil has a hard time (actually finds it impossible) to be completely evil.
Who knows. This sounds a bit desperate on their part.
The leftists ARE the biggest part of the problem in Venezuela, with the way they have choked the whatsis out of the living creature that was Venezuela. There is a part the people have played in accepting this, but only a part.
The problem is most likely due to Chinese takeout. Everyone know when you eat Chinese food, you’re hungry again in an hour.
Meow
At this point there’s nothing to waste.
Except human lives, which will cure itself rather quickly.
“I would have blamed racism and George Bush if I had been this reporter.”
Can’t be racism. Racism only affects mexicans. Mexicans and Venezuelans aren’t the same thing? Right?
Nominate that man for 2016 Walter Duranty Award.
Yeah, I make a mean toilet paper stew. Hmmmmm....
Thanks PJ-Comix.
He wrote the article based on what he was reading/watching.What is going on in a place like Venezuela would look horrifying.....
There is going to be enormous turmoil going on in this country,if not the whole region around it.
It would look like the collapse of Yugoslavia,or any other communist/socialist hellhole.
