Donald Trump's campaign chief made an extraordinary slip of the tongue on Thursday morning as he sought to reframe the turmoil within the Republican's election team, when he accidentally said he would support someone besides his boss for president.
First Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort admitted on ABC News' Good Morning America that 'there is a conflict within the Trump campaign' over whether the party's standard bearer should endorse Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in his congressional primary.
Trump's failure to do so infuriated the head of the Republican National Committee, and helped trigger reports that officials were checking in on party rules for replacing a nominee should he drop out.
Appearing on CBS This Morning less than half an hour later Thursday, Manafort said, 'I support him as speaker and after next week Im going to be supporting him for a candidate for President.'
The Trump aide's error saying he'd back Ryan for president rather than as a member of Congress sent a shockwave through the studio, coming just a day after reports that party officials were researching how to replace Trump in the event that he got out of the race.

The problem with running a non traditional campaign is knowing who you can trust.
I’d let Roger Stone run it and see what happens.
Refusing to support other high visibility Reps is a really dumb idea.
The press is really getting silly—as if no one has ever simply misspoken. They always do the same thing when Donald does it too, even when he quickly corrects himself.
The wheels have come off?

If only the media covered Hillary’s slip of the tongue on “taxing the middle class”
Et tu, Paul Manafort?
Exactly, where is the slip of the tongue?
Damn!!! I KNEW something was about to shake loose. I just didn’t know from who. Holy Moly. That’s the sort of statement you cannot walk back or say you were ‘just joking’.
To blurt this out in public is very unprofessional and looks desperate.
As I was saying just yesterday, this is a very unusual race and it could go in any direction for either candidate at ANY time.
Stay tuned to the next episode of “As The World (of the GOPe) Burns”.
“Et tu, Paul Manafort?”
Come on, people. Let’s not buy the media’s BS. They are currently in full-on Pravda mode.
I would hate to think it but there have been leaks from the campaign that are hard to explain.
French Revolution - Trump Style
I think he’s just tired. The sequence was “primary, and then in his race agains the DEM,” but Manafort was off in another world. The race next week is not for Speaker, it’s to decide which person the GOP is going to run for a term in Congress.
Explanation....Manafort was thinking about Ryan at the same time.....this happens to all of us.
The media take and/or explanation is one big farce.
If only! Roger is too demonized by now, but what a thought!
It's just that the media wants to make a big deal about it so they can report that Manafort is supporting Ryan for President after next week (meaning after the Wisconsin primary). Total fabrication. If anything, they should report the slip of the tongue and move on. But nooooooooo!
These Leftist media types are like little bickering kids in a sandbox. Thumb-sucking, whiney crybabies, all of them.
Ryan opposes everything Trump wants, is an ally of Romney, attended an Erikson anyone but Trump rally, and refused to endorse Trump. Explain why enduring him makes any sense at all.
I suppose he meant to say candidate for Congress, which Ryan would be if he won the primary.
He obviously had the Presidency on his mind, since he’s working (presumably) to get Trump there.
So, it’s a plausible slip; nothing to get overly concerned about.
sounds to me he meant to say “candidate for congress”. Isn’t Ryan’s primary next week? he expects Ryan to win the primary.
Let’s all calm down here and stay focused on the enemy:
The media and the lying criminal.
