I think I know this story. As I recall, the opposition Taliban ramped up their attacks gradually against the Brits who were eventually relieved by a full strength U.S. Marines battalion taking over the responsibilities in Helmand Province. It’s the Daily Mail being overly dramatic.
About 6 months after this, I was attached to a brigade staff that moved heaven and hell to rescue 6 members of a special ops team that got in trouble. Different province, but I think you are right: “Its the Daily Mail being overly dramatic.”
Well they quoted some of the soldiers that were there and it sounds like they had it rough for a few months.
But you are probably right that poetic license was in there.
Still, 3 dead and 12 injured badly, that’s a shame.
God knows how many Taliban they killed?
How many of these guys are there? Been killing them for 13 years!!
They said they were allowed to go because the local elders made a truce to prevent any other village soldiers from being killed.
I’d like to see the documentary and get all the facts.
