They shut down the Memorials because of the Govt shutdown and they wouldn’t be able to pay the Park Service Employees & Park Police the few people that tend to the Memorials...

In all its infinite wisdom in order to keep the Volunteers and Tourists out —where normally maybe 3 PP per shift covered the whole Mall -—to just ‘be there’ had to be replaced with about 3+ PER MEMORIAL, plus barricades etc etc etc...
So when you consider all the OT etc it cost the Park Services about triple what they normally spend to ‘police’ and maintain the memorials while they were shut down...
Same as the DC Metro.....all this BS now about major shutdowns - yes justified BUT my question is the same as the question that should have been leveled at New Orleans AND followed through-
Where has all the Maintenance money been going for lo those many years...Probably bonuses to the overbloated staff it takes to ‘manage’ the system....
