Yes, I also knew a woman who did that. I think (at the time), she would mostly call in (not online). I believe the QVC telephone staffers were extremely friendly, and it was a way, also, to deal with loneliness.

I'm an order-taker for a catalog company. We get people who are obviously lonely all the time.
Most of the time I try to chat and be friendly with them. But once in a while there's a creepy one that I can't get off the phone fast enough!
