garbage journalism and a hit job. Trump pays his bills but for whatever reason (I am not a construction mogul) he takes his time.

Funny how the fake journalist acts like a lover of the small businessman by calling the paint company a "mom and pop" operation...

Meanwhile, small businesses are dying over the last eight years, but the Miami Herald doesn't notice.

The suck is great.

“On a project of this magnitude with hundreds of contractors...."

Key quote. Hundreds. And 20 are pissed. The Miami Herald thinks it is big news.

It’s weird, for some reason contractors like to be paid in a timely manner.

As the wife of a construction project manager/architect, we often held up payment on bills submitted by contractors when they had overbilled for work not completed, or when they had not completed the “punch lists”.

Punch lists were generated throughout the projects for work that was not completed properly, such as painting contractors who had missed spots or areas, and had to come back and paint what they had missed.

Sometimes, contractors will substitute cheaper materials than those specified in the building specifications. This could also be a cause for payments being held up or denied.

Sometimes, building inspectors could refuse to sign off on a project and withhold a permit to open the building until certain corrections were made.

There are always disputes between architects, engineers, and construction managers and the contractors who have signed a contract to do the work as specified. Nothing unusual here, goes on in almost every project.

Liens are automatically filed on most any construction project, and releases are demanded with the receipts of payment. It’s a standard in the industry.

It’s a standard operational procedure. Trumps opposition is trying to use something that happens no matter as a club to beat him with.

More media bullcrap.

My wife, and I had a business back in the seventies/eighties, and we had to comply with the procedures in place in the industry. We know.

Chrysler/Getrag bankrupted a large local electric contractor here in IN when the new facility they were building was abandoned after the 2008 downturn.

Chrysler then re-acquired the building after sitting unfinished for 3 years and now assemble parts there.

But the electrician is still out of business.

As someone who used to be in construction, painting and landscaping are the last things done.
This is a hit job.
What probably happened is a portion of the paint work didn’t meet expectations or was the wrong color.
They are withholding payment until job is done correctly.

What about all of the money owed by all of the politicians for all of their electioneering that in some cases hasn’t yet been paid off even after years or decades?

I suppose Trump could start pointing fingers back at Hillary.

She stiffed a lot a people for a long time back in 2008.
She eventually got the bills paid, as will Trump.

...

Perhaps he doesn’t pay until the job is done right.

I’m an attorney and have handled lots of lien issues. Just want to echo what many have said. This is routine on any large project. There are always issues with contractors, sometimes liens get filed for leverage and 99.9% are settled.

Total hit job ... Notice that they don’t quote any of the owners of the business..and none got back to them. The first company already boasts two Trump golf courses on their website...Trump International - West Palm Beach, FL
Trump National Resort - Doral, FL.

And trying to say these liens open the way for a forced sale of Doral unless it’s paid off and that Trump managed to stave off an attempt to sell Doral for a $34,000 bill, is a 100 mile stretch of the truth.

These are just like mechanic’s liens..almost automatic, and there could be a hundred for Trump Inc. not to pay in full.

I’ll bet the contractor and the paint supplier didn’t want anything to do with this hit piece. The last thing they want is their company name being looked at like a under-performing contractor.

It appears that one of the liens is from the paint supplier who is likely owed the money by the painting contractor. It’s SOP for suppliers to file preliminary liens for materials on a job but it would be the subcontractor’s (painting contractor in this case) responsibility to pay them after being paid by the owner/client. I routinely run $5M+ projects and it is not unusual for suppliers to subcontractors to file liens because they haven’t been paid. There is usually some type of dispute with the subcontractor and the General Contractor related to defects or workmanship that hold up payments. Sometimes it can be something as small as closeout or warranty documents not being received.

What’s even more interesting is that the larger amount listed from the General Contractor is 1/100th of the total of $255 million project.

This writer is part of the Clinton team and his job was to forward the theme that Trump screw’s the little guy.

It would be a lot of fun to start calling the writer with some pointed questions.

It may be a case of a contractor or a sub not paying someone down stream from them.

Mechanic’s lien or UCC Lien.

They are common in capital projects over $25,000 and for one this size, it would take several months for it to be paid after the work is done.

Nothing to see here.

The story is purposely slanted to make it look like a typical transaction is being used to squeeze the little guy.

Believe me, the property can’t operate with these lien’s sitting over them.

They will be paid in proper and due course of time.

......what bullshit!

Lien’s are common as dirt in the construction business. I’ve dealt with subs and vendors on scores of liens. They file a lien to get leverage. Usually, they are demanding more than they are owed or they have not finished their work or they have performed shoddy work. I’ve never got anywhere close to a lien being foreclosed upon. The libs really truly are bonkers on this one! In due time, Trump will settle these liens for a negotiated amount. That’s the way the system works, like it or not!

I’m a Florida lawyer and I’ll tell you this is no big deal. If they are owed money then they will get paid. If not then they won’t. It’s just a commercial dispute. Happens all the time. Usually because the general contractor
went bust and did not pay the subs.
