Justice Department says it will end use of private prisons: Report The Justice Department is reportedly planning to stop using private prisons.
Shares of GEO Group and Corrections Corporation of America were originally halted on the news, but have since reopened, falling more than 20 percent.

They need to stop any decisions until we make our presidential decision.
When capitalism and a “justice system” meet, the results can be uneasy. Cf the brouhaha going on right now in Rio.
If I were a bond holder of "jail bonds", I'd be really nervous if I had federal prisoners there. The federal government pays all types of prisons to temporarily house them until they can make it into a true Federal BOP prison.
....it isn't going to matter when Obama pardons all black federal prisoners though on 19 JAN 2017 as a final F.U. to America.

There was some really ugly stuff with a Dem linked judge and private juvie prisons in PA not that long ago, IIRC.
I hate agreeing with zero, but this is actually good news. Prisons as a profit center are a really, really bad idea.

This is one of those things that OUGHT to be “purely political.”
I don't have to. When the Episcopal Church and United Methodist Church came out against private prisons, I knew they were a good thing. UMC is on the wrong side of everything when it comes to social/political issues: Crime control, criminal justice reform, concealed carry, self defense, etc.
One world, one government, one prison.
This could be something Trump could agree on, cost him little in political and national interest, and reach people who would otherwise not read anything Trump has to say.
And it’s possible the ‘Rats could come up with more moves like this... find things that they’ve bollixed up for pecuniary reasons and now look all reformist.
What I would look at is who shorted the stock? This is a money play.
Contrarianism for its own sake can blow up in one’s face. Sometimes even the devil can want you to be blessed, if only to have the chance to misuse the blessing later.
As a retired correctional officer in a state prison, I remember being told that the over-whelming number of prisoner lawsuits against the state was the reason to privatize.
The idea of private sector for profit prisons is good. The execution of the business model has been bad.
