Trump hit it out of the park.
One thing I've heard consistently from the Dems, especially those on MSNBC, is 'we're all immigrants, most of us have only been here 1 or 2 generations, it's not like it was'. And so with an immigrant-surrounded-by-immigrants mindset, it's easy to push an open borders stance. Not stopping once to consider that outside of the immigrant-centric urban centers they live in, is an entire country with families that have been here for centuries. However, if you asked the same people if their home countries should have open borders, it's a different story, as they speak with pride of the national identity and historic places 'back home' that they don't expect to change one hair.
If Trump wants to sell this he should be HAMMERING the Puerto Rico communities in battleground states (particularly FL) explaining how illegal immigration is UNDERMINING the wages in our Spanish American communities. He should talk about how the PR community IS part of the fabric of our AMERICAN community since they are citizens and are often the most impacted by the crime and drugs so present within the illegal immigrant activities. Turn the PRs into the new Cubans!
It’s been so long since we had a President who put Americans first, I’d forgotten what it felt like.
Of the Presidents since the last amnesty, Bill Clinton was the best at enforcement, as sad as that is.
The Bush family is largely responsible for the 30 years of bipartisan policy of non-enforcement of immigration laws.
