This Labor Day, America has 83,000 fewer coal jobs and 400 coal mines than it did when Barack Obama was elected in 2008, showing that the president has followed through on his pledge to bankrupt the coal industry.
A 2015 study found the coal industry lost 50,000 jobs from 2008 to 2012 during Obamas first term. During Obamas second term, the industry employment in coal mining has fallen by another 33,300 jobs, 10,900 of which occurred in the last year alone, according to federal data. Currently, coal mining employs 69,460 Americans, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Much of the blame for the job losses is targeted at federal regulations aimed at preventing global warming, which caused coal power plants to go bankrupt, resulting in a sharp decline in the price of coal.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; its just that it will bankrupt them, because theyre going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas thats being emitted, Obama said during a 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicles editorial board.

Devastated my area here in SW PA, Washington, Greene and Fayette counties.
Nothing has improved by eliminating those jobs that I can see. Energy prices are not cheaper, for sure.
Something else to think about is that to re-open
those mines will cost a lot of money.
It’s not just like turning off a switch.
Without being in operation those facilities
become more unsafe by the day.
I thought Obama liked shovel ready jobs?
Well the miners unions will vote for the Dhimmicrats, right? (sarc)
I seriously wonder what the usually dem supporting union bosses will tell their members?
That’s right. Clinton won’t get one coal minor’s vote.
“I seriously wonder what the usually dem supporting union bosses will tell their members? “
And if the MSM did its job, they would send someone out there to interview the union President. Why hasn’t Fox done it? That is a HUGH and SERIES story.
The small town they were part of for many decades no longer has any industry; the truck, rail and barge outfits that served them lost loads; the ripple effects are considerable in an area that - unlike the DC beltway - has no more fat to trim or padding to fall on. Best economy ever!
Mr. niteowl77
83k votes for Trump.
Democraps love shovel-the-BS jobs like more PR flacks, those are shovel-ready!
Just to show you how much union leadership is for the rank and file, Richard Trumpka used to be president of the United Mine Workers. Now this dim stooge is AFL CIO pres and biggest clinton boot licker to be found.
Didn’t he say something about transforming America?
He sure did, we knew what he meant but, unfortunately for America, way too many low-info voters thought he meant unicorns and fairy dust, which in the end, is exactly what we got.
Never knew that. Thanks. Mine Union. Wow.
You are absolutely correct. My family worked in the mines, and I can tell you there aren’t a better, more inherently decent bunch than America’s coal miners.
Trumka, UMWA president, is all in for Hillary.
There is a major difference between a union boss & a union member.
One HAS a job & paycheck. The other doesn’t
Guess who’s supporting obammy & hildabeast???
