...Bensenhaver, 58, decided to retire Wednesday, telling Beshear in her letter of resignation that she was leaving “under considerable duress” and was concerned about his office’s commitment to Open Records and Open Meetings law enforcement.
She had received a stern reprimand in July from a Beshear lieutenant, who cited her “lack of good conduct and a poor performance of work duties.”
Bensenhaver was criticized for refusing to sign her name to an open records decision with which she disagreed, and twice editing opinions after they had been approved by supervisors. Bensenhaver said she simply removed a footnote that was factually incorrect and corrected another footnote.
But her major offense was giving an interview to John Nelson, retired editor of the Danville Advocate-Messenger and former president of the Kentucky Press Association, for a column he wrote commemorating the 40th anniversary of the state’s transparency laws. Nothing Bensenhaver told Nelson was controversial.

The timing of this debacle could not be worse for Beshear, who is waging a bitter fight with the Republican who succeeded his father as governor. As Beshear has challenged Bevin’s expansive use of executive power, he has faced scandal in his own office.
Beshear’s deputy attorney general, Tim Longmeyer, resigned in March and pleaded guilty in April to federal bribery charges related to his job in former Gov. Steve Beshear’s administration. A month later, Don Pasley, an executive adviser to the attorney general, resigned after being charged with DUI.

Also you’ve got to love them referring to Bevin’s “expansive use of executive power.” He is removing boards that are illegally constituted (quite clear based on the plain language of the statutes) and reconstituting them legally. That is his job. If they were legally constituted and he just removed them because he just didn’t like them, that would be another matter entirely. For example, the Louisville Board of Trustees - the law requires an even partisan makeup of that board and minority representation - it had neither of those - there were 13 Democrats and one Republican and few minorities. Bevin scrapped that board and reappointed it a legal board as the law requires. Beshear is litigating to get the legal board scrapped and the illegal board put back into place.
He needs to resign immediately.
Notice how when it is a Dem...they never point that out...but when the shoe is on the other foot...well, we all know how that goes
Not necessary in Kentucky. Everyone knows the party affiliation of the Beshears.
This boggles my mind. Beshear Junior seems to lack any of the political instincts of his father. Kentucky, particularly its Democrat Party, has been rife with corruption for decades. However they normally have the good sense to keep it low key, deliver basic services, keep the people distracted.
Beshear Junior has picked a fight with a well respected and legendary figure. I am not sure what he thought he would gain by this. It is a red flag and distracts from his efforts to undermine a Republican Governor. Politically it is idiotic, and focuses attention upon his own marginal comptence. He might as well take out a billboard proclaiming how crooked he is.
I abhor corrupt Democrats, but you have to respect the ability of someone like a Bill Clinton or Beshear Senior to nimbly work the system. Beshear Junior is just greedy and stupid.
Beshear Junior is too stupid to resign, if he had any brains, he would not have picked this fight.
He thinks he’s going to do to Gov. Bevin what Stumpy did to Gov. Fletcher. This time, it’s going to backfire big time.
