Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was a Soviet spy in Damascus in the 1980s, Israel’s Channel 1 television reported Wednesday, citing information it said was included in an archive smuggled out of the USSR.
According to Channel 1’s foreign news editor Oren Nahari, the famed Mitrokhin archive, kept by KGB defector Vasily Mitrokhin, revealed that Abbas was a Soviet mole in Damascus in 1983.

I believe this tie through Abbas to Putin’s ME envoy in Damascus, represents further evidence of Putin’s Middle East axis.
It’s a throw back, but during the 1967 Six Day War, Moscow was squarely behind the Pan Arab (Sunni and Shia united) effort to attack and destroy Israel.
Anyone who is going to attempt to destroy Israel today has to tread very softly or secretively. Head on confrontations with Israel have not turned out so well for those involved. Abbas knows this.
Asymmetric political maneuvering and attack, as well as asymmetric warfare have been the rule for some time.
Israel has been treated very badly for most of its existence by Moscow and through the UN.
While there are rarely strait lines in politics, in the end, I believe there will be extreme treachery utilized or employed against Israel from throughout the Middle East and Moscow.

I’m not sure this is credible, or accurate. The PLO/Fatah probably did cultivate ties with the Kremlin and Abbas as Arafat’s #2 would be a likely pick. He also had freedom of movement that Arafat did not, and Arafat could not trust too many people below his closest circle to handle this matter. So I don’t doubt that Abbas worked with the Soviets but I do doubt he was a “mole” which implies he worked for the USSR against his own organization.

The propaganda bag if lies against Israel and the U.S. have long been Marxist/Communist campaigns. That Abbas was and is a Soviet agent should be assumed, not a surprise.
I would be surprised if Yasser wasn’t a soviet agent. Abbas? Seriously. He sucks anyway.
