Why as a Christian I Don't Pledge Allegiance to the American Flag
PJ Media ^ | September 12, 2016 | John Ellis

Posted on 09/14/2016 7:13:23 AM PDT by C19fan

Colin Kaepernick's decision to remain seated during the playing of the national anthem has generated a lot of noise. Seemingly carving the divide between Americans into an even larger chasm, people's anger has consumed the controversy and shut down most attempts at actual dialogue. Within that cultural framework, I meekly submit that I do not pledge allegiance to the American flag because I am a Christian. I pray that instead of adding to the division, my reason(s) why I do not will encourage fellow Believers as well as prompt unbelievers to research what it means to be a Christian.

Seems Jesus spoke about this in his render unto Caesar statement.

The “Under God” addition in the ‘50s puts in the needed qualifier. All of our allegiance is subject to it. Indivisible? It is until it isn’t, whether we like it or not.

**I do not pledge allegiance to the American flag because I am a Christian.***

Sounds more like a Jehovah’s witness. They have problems with that. But then, if THAT were their ONLY problem with theology...

Of course Christians are citizens of Heaven.

Pledging allegiance to our country is NOT making our government our God. You don’t see the difference?

Save the ‘We are the World’ nonsense for another time and place.

Six personal pronouns, in two sentences?

Yep, that fits.

“If all the people having a shit fit over this flag brouhaha were equally passionate about the Constitution having been overthrown by a Fascist oligarchy, the future would look brighter than it does.”

Absolutely right. What a different situation we would be in today.

Yes, Jesus covered the author's objection in your citation and the Pledge covered it in the "one nation under God" part. I suspect by the author's phony objection and the sliver of his background (theatre and Washington DC) given on PJmedia that he's what the leftwing is trying to pass off as a "Christian."

I wish they DID “research” it — and the answer orbits around John 3:16 and makes no categorical imperatives about flags.

If someone had actually worshiped a country or its flag and then became a Christian and it hurts his conscience to keep on saluting the flag, then he shouldn’t salute the flag or be pressured to do so. But this is a situational accommodation to a weak believer.

What a chap like Kaepernick is doing with respect to the American flag, pales before the question of what he is doing with respect to Christ (and currently he is pledged to Allah IIRC). Let him diss the flag if he believes that is right. But please do not diss Christ forever.

The Flag is the representative symbol of all of the things that you guys say you will pledge allegiance to - God, Constitution, it’s countrymen, the whole shebang.

The author as well as several replies in this thread treat the flag as a compartmentalized part of the process. I don’t pledge allegiance to a flag - a flag is a piece of cloth that will never issue a command, fix a budget or declare a national park. Men don’t listen to flags for marching orders.

I pledge allegiance to that flag as everyone on earth pledges to theirs - For what it is not what it is not.

The principles of this country are not in contradiction with Christian principles. Many laws are, but that’s another matter.
If you don’t like it, go to Somalia and stay.

It might be better to pledge allegiance to a Constitution.

I find myself able to pledge allegiance to my faith and my country. It’s sort of like being able to multi-task.

(1) God
(2) Family & Friends
(3) Nation
(4) etc.

It’s not something that needs to be overly complicated.

Indeed. And if those same people started ignoring the athletes, this would all dry up quickly.

Yep: Mark 12:17

New International Version
Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at him.

Was DANIEL wrong when he said this to pagan king Nebuchadnezzar?

Daniel 6:21-22

21-22 “O king, live forever!” said Daniel.

So why all the bruhaha over the Pledge of Allegiance?
