The anti-Trump immigrant voter surge has failed to materialize, as advocates hopes of recruiting 1 million green card holders to become citizens in time to vote have fallen short.
From December, when the advocates announced their effort, to the end of June, which marks an informal application deadline for citizenship before Election Day, some 600,000 naturalization applications were filed with the immigration service.
That was 9 percent more than the same period in 2012, the previous presidential election year, but way less than the 1 million that advocates sought, and it doesnt come close to other citizenship surges.
Hispanic rights groups say they are now trying to sign up citizens who have never registered to vote. But even there, the groups are reportedly facing a funding shortfall that is sapping their energy.
Advocates were counting on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump to help energize Hispanics eager to punish him for his stern stance against illegal immigration. They say they are still confident of a large turnout in November despite the naturalization numbers.

These so-called rights-groups are not representing immigrants, only the illegal ones.
Another Hillary flop.
No real enthusiasm for her among immigrant voters.
Hillary is done.
Are green card voters allowed to vote?
Last night I was at an event for Chinese people in America, and one of the speakers asserted that this was the case.
Only Citizens can vote (legally).
Just talked with a friend in CA, who said that a lady originally from S. America talked with her and recommended voting for Trump. They do not like communist Hillary.
Landslide for Trump is coming!
Sorry, the answer is easy to find on Google.
Green card holders are eligible to vote in local elections. They cannot vote in federal elections.
“Green card holders are eligible to vote in local elections. They cannot vote in federal elections.”
I did not know this. I also thought that only US citizens can vote, period.
But I guess in some local elections they can change the rules to allow permanent residents to vote in local elections. But certainly NOT for president of the US.
No, they cannot vote legally; but their friends can vote for them. Also, illegal aliens are counted in the census and they create new Democrat congressional districts. That is how Xavier Becerra (D)Calif. got into congress.
How deplorable.
That’s something that needs to change. You can count illegals as part of the census, but they should not be counted when calculating congressional districts, or for any block grants, etc.
Our representatives are supposed to be working for citizen constituents. There should be no advantage for any candidate based on illegal population nor should any locality or district get any extra taxpayer money due to including illegals in their population.
There is a First World mentality that Americans share. That America is greater than any one of us. This is what drives our soldiers to sacrifice themselves on the field of battle, rather then flee like cretins (yes, I am referring to cowardly Muslims) the moment an armed threat appears on the battlefield.
Now consider the “wretched refuse” we welcome into our country. Those able bodied cowards who left their wives and families, who never fired a shot to defend their property, relatives, families or way of life. These people think of nothing as important as themselves. They have nothing to offer but baseless lust, greed and cowardice.
And Democrats cannot bring enough of them in.
The black community is moving toward Trump too... biggest change some polling groups have EVER seen in a week’s time.
Probably due to fear of being found out to be illegal invaders. It would be similar of a response to gun registration, having to register yourself. To get confiscated.
Takoma Park, Maryland is a loony left city that borders DC and that city allows 16 year olds to vote in city elections, but they can't vote in state or federal elections.
They also allow any resident to vote - legal or illegal, but they have to keep two registration lists - one for federal and state and the second one for the city elections. I am not aware of any other city allowing anyone to vote, but I'm sure there a few other leftist cities out there doing the same.
