Back in the sixties, during typhoons on Guam, Navy personnel flew the planes to safety off island. Dependents were left to ride out the storm. Houses were made of very thick cinder block and there wasn't any land close enough for evacuation anyway.

I hope that Hurricane Matthew is not as strong as predicted when it crosses land. May all lives be preserved.

Yep - after Katrina, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
