End of an era.

Big loss to the world of classical music.

Maestro Sir Marriner was one of the most informed interpreters of Mozart's music, which came alive under his baton like it did with few other conductors. He now joins his beloved composer in the heavens...

RIP.

Wow, I really enjoyed his work for years on my local NPR station.

For a long time, Sir Neville led the way in performing baroque and classical works with smaller orchestras. He was somewhat displaced when the Historically Informed Performance movement (which I do not care for at all) took over classical music. I still enjoy his recordings of Handel, Bach, Haydn and Mozart played on modern instruments. He did a series of recordings of Sir William Walton’s film music back in the 90’s. My wife and I met him at a signing party where he autographed my copies. He was quite friendly and charming. RIP, Sir Neville.

That's a shame. In my basement are scores of CDs from Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.

Baroque is by far my favorite period of classical music.

Ormandy, Dorati, Masur, and now Mariner ... The great masters of our time are passing.

A real loss to the music of Earth.

Lord, receive Sir Neville’s soul, evermore enlightening the Music of the Spheres. Amen.

May he rest in peace. His life and career were great gifts to those of us who love ‘classical music’.
