Tebow will be playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions.

The Arizona league is a real step up from the Florida league.

The teams of the Arizona league are each stocked by six players from five different MLB teams. At least four of these players must be AA-minor leaguers or higher. (The Florida league, in contrast, predominantly features A-level minor leaguers, new signees and players coming back from injuries.)

Also on the Scottsdale roster is Gleyber Torres of the Yankee farm system. Torres was acquired by the Yankees in the deal that sent Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs. He is considered among the top minor league prospects.

The author thinks Tebow will be overwhelmed.

I hope he does well. I might be biased...

If he does become overwhelmed it’ll be by the curve ball. It’s always the curveball.

Ditto - and I am definitely biased - I am a Go Gator Fan of Tebow from way back when. He deserves his shot without the commentary on his emotional well being from the Enemy Media. What a hoot they are as commentarians.

The author thinks Tebow will be overwhelmed.

The competition will be several steps above what he has faced to date. If he has a chance of making it this will be a good indicator.

More play and better coaching as he moves up, he’ll do fine and I predict he’ll be in the Majors by mid season next year, if not sooner.

That’s a very optimistic view!

But, I kind of agree with you. Tebow, we know, is a professional athlete, and a very disciplined one at that. We will know soon enough if he can hit high minor league pitching. During his short time in Florida, he posted a respectable average, showed a good eye for the strike zone, and showed some power.

It should be noted that Fall League pitchers, while they are prospects, are now just fringe major leaguers. The kind of pitching faced every day in the majors is at a much higher level.

If Tebow is not wildly overmatched here, he will get a legitimate chance on a 25-man roster in the next couple seasons. I expect him to be wildly overmatched, as do the Mets, but he needs to accumulate real at-bats regardless at a rapid pace if this isn’t just a publicity stunt.

Neither I, nor my DH, are sports followers (my dad was an avid fan, and if he was still alive, I’d be calling him for the answer.)

But wasn’t there a player who was signed to play football, and also baseball?

Inquiring minds need to know.

If you can play baseball, you’re nuts to choose football over baseball.

Bo Jackson wishes he had. He won’t even let his sons play football.

From memory, the last player to be a regular player in two sports was Deon “Neon” Sanders, a Hall of Fame-caliber cornerback in the NFL, and a baseball player. Bo “Bo Knows” Jackson might have been Hall of Fame in football and baseball if not for a career-ending injury.

Jeff Samardzija, a pitcher with the SF Giants, could have gone pro in either football or baseball, but chose baseball. He was an outstanding receiver for the Fightin’ Irish.

My alma mater, St. John’s University of New York, had a basket player who was an effective substitute, playing at the college level in one sport, after signing with the Cincinnati Reds in another sport. However, in recognition of the major investment in him by the Reds, he stopped trying to pursue two sports.

With the length of the seasons, nowadays, and with the risk of injury, it is getting rare to find two pro-level guys anymore. Hey, people like Deon Sanders just don’t come along very frequently

Tebow always finished big. The guy who beat him out ended up winning the Super Bowl. He had the highest bar to surpass.

It is all legend now.

And Charlie Ward, who won a Heisman, wound up playing pro basketball, instead of football.
