Two Palms Springs police officers were fatally shot and another wounded Saturday while responding to family disturbance call, and a SWAT team remains at the scene, police said.
The shooting occurred when the officers responded to the scene near the corner of Racquet Club Road and Sunrise Way about noon, authorities said.
“The officers were near the front door,” an emotional Police Chief Bryan Reyes told reporters during an afternoon news conference. “They were responding to a simple family disturbance and [the gunman] elected to open fire on the guardians of this city.”

Maddening and sad.
Tragic.
But the idea that they were responding to a “simple” family disturbance is at odds with some reports that the father told a neighbor that his son had a gun and wanted to kill cops. I believe the neighbor called the police. They showed up, and were suddenly gunned down. Were these officers informed of the danger of this situation? So many questions.

One was a 35 year veteran, who intended to retire in December, and was working an overtime shift. The other was a new mother.
I am saddened about this.
These officers showed up to help make sure members of the public were not hurt, then this.
Police officers pay the price of Protecting and Serving.
But maddening and extremely sad for sure.
Not doubt these cops were, as Hillary says, born racists.
“So I am not so sure that the wars on cops statement is applicable for this.”
When multiple police officers are ambushed and killed, it is unquestionably part of the War on Cops.
According to a local news source, the father ran across the street for help and told a neighbor his son had a gun and wanted to kill cops. The neighbor then called the police.

That’s an outright premeditated ambush, just like Dallas, just like Baton Rouge.
What I mean is that there are many people that hate cops, but this boy or young man whatever you want to call him is crazy and most likely hates cops for a very different reason. It is not connected to the BLM war on cops, and that is what I meant. If you want to attribute everyone who wants to kill a cop as part of the war on cops, then yes.
This is making me cry. All these innocent officers out there protecting us. One guy was a couple months from retirement and the other cop just had given birth to a baby 4 months ago. This is ALL ON OBAMA.
I am so pissed off at this point. We are going to have to go armed to protect ourselves and to protect our Law Enforcement? I put the thin blue line sticker on my car so that the police might have a sigh of relief if they need to stop me. It’s not enough. I pray for our protectors.
I hope you reveal what you know .. it could make a very big difference.
If the neighbor did not reveal what he knew about the shooter when he called the police; that could be considered a crime - like aiding and abetting in the commission of a crime.
Be careful.
Only one news agency is reporting this detail, to my knowledge. The Desert Sun newspaper.
I’m sure all the facts will come out in due time. There might be a history with this suspect and his dealings with police. The police chief said at the earlier briefing he would soon be providing details on earlier calls to this house.
The suspect is reportedly still holed up in the house. There’s a massive police presence, with multiple agencies involved.

That is my question as well. Did the neighbor tell the dispatcher that the son was armed and threatening to harm officers? Too many of these cases seem to involve people who are mentally ill and yet their families allow them access to guns! The police are being placed into no-win situations as today’s tragic encounter shows...
Quite possibly he is crazy and latched on to all the BLM propaganda and decided to act upon it.
Don’t make the mistake thinking that BLM has a reasoned, well-thought-out position. They’re crazy, too.
If Obama and Hillary didn’t give a damn about the “Benghazi 4”, why would they give a damn about a couple of cops?
See how many Democrat politicians say a thing about this third or fourth killing of police officers in the last two weeks.

One of the dead cops had a 4 month old child...the other was scheduled to retire at the end of the year.
This is disgusting. It’s too much.
