Theranos, a onetime star Silicon Valley startup focused on health technology, is closing its consumer blood-testing facilities amid its struggles with US regulators.

The company, which has been seeking to disrupt the medical testing sector with new technology, said the closings will mean cutting some 340 jobs.

"After many months spent assessing our strengths and addressing our weaknesses, we have moved to structure our company around the model best aligned with our core values and mission," company founder Elizabeth Holmes said in an open letter.

Perfect liberals at Theranos, all lofty talk and no competence.

Huge promises, no delivery.

But....but....but....we were told (By Forbes, etc) that she was amazing! Brilliant! Incomparable!

Because......vagina.

Wonder if she'll do time, or skate for the same reason. If she was male, she'd already be underneath the jail.

Dunno. I vaguely remember reading something that said she didn't swing that way, if you know what I mean.

But it could have just been vague speculation on FR, it's been a couple of years.

Will do a quick search and see what's here.

"We're going to synergize our core competencies to maximize stakeholder buyin and identify value chains that standardize mission-critical footprints."

Translation: we pooched the market and senior staff is reaching for that golden parachute ring. Last one out the door gets the subpoena.

A quick search didn't find anything, other than she's a vegan, "not dating", throws herself into her work. I did find this.... “The minute you have a back-up plan, you’ve admitted you’re not going to succeed.” – Theranos CEO and founder Elizabeth Holmes

Sez me, as an IT guy who's managed projects for multibillion dollar corporations ...... you ALWAYS have a backout plan. Without exception. Even if it makes you look foolish, or weak, or if it holds things up to get the pieces put in place. To go in without one is the epitome of arrogance.

And, in Theranos, we saw how that arrogance works out. Thinking that you're 10-feet-tall-and-bulletproof isn't always a male trait.

Major hubris; she was aping Steve Job’s look and mannerisms and I believe that she’ll get jailed only after her liberal investors realize just how stupid she’s made them look.

I always love to translate MBA corporate-speak: "We're so lacking in focus that we don't even know what we do, let alone what we do best. This has alarmed investors to the point that they no longer believe us, so we need to find somebody to buy our crap and now before we're out of our floozy jobs."

Consideration on whether to ditch or not (US Navy P-3C):

- how long is the plane going to be able to fly?

- will the plane be controllable at low airspeeds?

- will the crew survive at sea considering sea state, temperature, and distance from rescue?

- is ditching configuration possible (at least approach flaps, gear up, APU and bomb bay doors closed)?

(NATOPS 12.7)

This whole thing is being framed as a fraud from the start due to having promised the impossible.

But the blood testing industry is ripe for disruption. And there have been technological advances in blood testing that are not reflected in the standard testing options.

LOL! That’s like describing an aerodynamic stall as “when the wing takes a too big bite out of the air and the aerodynamics convert that indication to an electrical impulse that sets- off the stall warning horn.” And people bought this?

True.

It isn’t a bad idea, but somehow despite being a dropout and no clue about blood or biotechnology, she ended up founding a company that ran on hype and hubris, but didn’t get the right team and didn’t wait until results, real results, before publicizing herself.

People bought it because they wanted to. They are looking for the Next Big Thing in someone and frankly they want to believe that a woman will be ruling a male dominated industry.
