Auto sales are a leading indicator, and they aren't looking very healthy right now.
No, its more like Americans getting tired of badass cars, and going for a bit more utility.
I drive a Scion FR-S. Love the handling, though most people think 200 horsepower is not enough. What cracks me up is that the Firebird in Smokey and the Bandit only had 185. My how times change.
Anyway, regarding the mustang, my stepson picked up a really souped up six speed manual version brand new about 8 months ago and wanted me to test drive it because he was wondering about a funny noise.
The noise was nothing but OMG! That car was the thing of dreams in teh 60’s and 70’s. It was a monster! And loads of fun to drive.
I’m a small car and gas mileage nut so I’d never own one, but that was a serious rush.
I leased a 2017 Escape last month. It was going to be a Fusion, but with the incentives, the Escape SE was cheaper than the Fusion SE and had the same gas mileage.
I’m thankful to have a salesman I trust, that pointed out the savings.
Obama and HilLIARy have scared everyone into buying more firearms - sometimes you can’t even get into the store, it’s so crowded
Americans fed up with the left wing liberal FORD company and especially its move of American jobs to MEXICO. Go TRUMP!!!
We are looking for a used car right now. A basic sedan in the 2-years-old, 30k miles range is 20k+. Huh? It wasn’t that long ago that got you a new car. But I see the new cars going for 35k+. Yikes. No wonder sales are lagging.
Ford Motor is nothing like it was years ago.
Ford cannot compete with Toyota or even Honda.
Simple as that.
You can stick a Fork in Ford Motor.
They used to say “ ON a Hot Summer’s night; ... You can almost hear those Ford’s just Rusting Away out there!”
Could also be due to every car on the road looks exactly like the rest. Boring.
Ford is making some of the prettiest cars ever.
The Fusion is beautiful and so is the Lincoln MKZ.
The Mustang is not a car made for everyone.
The original V-6 Mustang was a “secretaries” car.
It was pretty and didn’t cost a lot. Not a lot of cars like that back then.
The present Mustang V-6 is not the only “secretaries” car anymore.
The V-8 Mustang is a great car. They put a new rear end in it so it corners better.
It really is hard to find a better value for a performance car than the V-8 Mustang.
The young men just aren’t into performance cars like my generation was.
New Mustangs are mostly for young people, who don’t have much money or jobs right now.
I’ve never heard that before but I don’t doubt it for a minute. Our entire modern economy from the ground up (literally; modern city planning is enabled by mass car ownership) and the place that builds all those cars is gonna be the canary in the coal mine.
Dad worked for GM.
I remember those days of temporary layoffs. They were not fun when you have kids to take care of.
Engine power improvements in recent years, more crowded roads, leaves a world whereby a “muscle” coupe or convertible is not very practical, or easy to enjoy.
Smaller sporty SUVs, crossovers, wagons are the trend in SoCal, the automotive trend capital of the US. (Most automakers have design studios here)
I see a lot of Mustangs around here (DC area). They look nice. If I had waited a year to buy my new car (’14 Genesis Coupe 3.8), I very well might have gotten a new Mustang instead.
They’ve just gotten too expensive.
Plus, there’s lot of plastic, and they’re cheaply made. I own an ‘06 GT convertible. It’s been a great car in a lot of ways, but Ford really cut corners in the manufacturing.
I got a wonderful Mustang convertible that I love in April. Grandkids love it :)
