My father was an idealistic Democrat, in that day. We still have old-school Democrats, who are appalled, as my father would be, at what the party has become. I don’t doubt that there are many Freepers of my age and older, who started out as Democrats, or at least liberal-minded - and changed later; and some relatively lately.
The party has become venal and completely dishonest. I’m beginning to think that both parties have, and we need a new system.
I’m from New York. My father was an Asst Atty General under AG Louis Lefkowitz in the 60’s and 70’s. He was a moderate Republican in those days and hated Reagan(thought he’d get America into a Workd War). I think he voted for that loser Anderson in 1980 but voted for Reagan in 1984 because he didn’t like Mondale’s policies.
If he were alive today I believe would be supporting Trump. He didn’t like the Clintons.
Yes we definitely need a new system. It’s time to kill the elephant and the donkey.
