HARRISBURG (KDKA) – Nearly 100,000 Pennsylvania Democrats have switched to Republican since the beginning of the year.

What’s more: The Pennsylvania Republican party says more than 240-thousand new voters have joined the party since last November.

The state Republican party says that the surge in Republican registrations is nearly twice the number of newly registered Republicans compared to both the 2008 and 2012 numbers combined

Good news. Hope it’s enough.

I wonder if we are seeing the last of the old school democrats (southern democrats we would call them where I’m from) starting to acknowledge reality and switch party affiliation.

310K vote deficit in 2012. But Hillary is not Obama, and Trump (thankfully!) is not Romney. While I still have my doubts, PA is quite possible. I was hoping this meant a solid chance at MI, which I haven’t head much about recently.

Don't forget that many Democrats in PA will be voting for Trump. They do not need to change voter affiliation to vote Trump in the general election.

I think they had to change to vote for him in the primary, which is why we see the changes we saw. But no reason to switch to Republican now. Hell, even many Republicans are going to be leaving the party after the shenanigans that were pulled by Ryan, Romney, Kasich & Co.

Let’s hope not in that last sentence; if Trump does win, I expect a housecleaning...between the voluntary retirements (good riddance GOPe!) and the Trump initated force outs, I expect a smaller, more compact, more focused core to remain.

BTW; the registrations in PA would have closed the gap in PA registrations from about +1,100,000 D to “just” approximately +900,000 D.

D Presidential candidates have been winning PA with margins of 350,000 to 450,000 for quite a few cycles; but those old Depression era D’s are no longer in the mix as most have passed away, and the younger D’s go to the polls less reliably than the old Roosevelt D’s.

Was that about turnout from the start, too.

“old Depression era D’s are no longer in the mix as most have passed away....”

does not mean they won’t be voting. perhaps twice.

And no telling how many will remain with their Party but break for Trump this time around. I have several friends who have been hard-core leftists and who supported Obama 100% but have told me that they have to vote for Trump to keep Hillary from killing their Party.

OBama dropped 300k votes betweeen 08 and 12... just shy of 3.3M in 08 and Just shy of 3.0.

R’s put up 2.65 in 08 an 2.68 in 12.

So Republicans can put 2.7 in the box even with crappy candidates... Hillary won’t get close to Obama’12 numbers and Trump is going to blow the lid off that 2.7...

I think Hillary will be lucky to see 2.5/6M votes and I expect Trump around 3M.
