Phil Chess, who co-founded the Chicago-based music label Chess, which brought American blues, soul and early rock music to an international audience and influenced generations of musicians including the Rolling Stones, died Oct. 19 at his home in Tucson. He was 95.

The article in my local paper had an interesting side note about Chess Records: In England a young Brit named Keith Richards was riding the tube when he saw another young man (Mick Jagger) holding two Chess record albums. One was by Muddy Waters. Richards started a conversation with the guy and well the rest is..................

The Chess (originally Czyż) brothers were born in the town of Motal. When Leonard was born in 1917, it was in German-occupied Russia, and when Phil was born in 1921, it was in Poland. Today, it's in Belarus.
