It’s more a tradition than anything else. It’s supposed to provide a forum in which the incoming and outgoing presidents can discuss details of transition. I’m sure Trump and Melania will be respectful, but we’ll never get any real details on the substance of their discussions.
Sadly it has been reported he is staying in DC.
