Chaing Kai Shek never reinquished his claim to China after the commies ran him off the mainland
To my knowledge they've never formally declared themselves a separate independent nation from mainland China
This twilight status has suited them well
To me they're another strategic ball and chain - something our legacy support for has a restricting effect on our (America's) foreign policy options
If they want to declare themselves a separate independent nation we should recognize them as such and back their independence militarily
But they're not "China" - thats the mainland
If they're not willing to declare independence then we should reduce our diplomatic presence to a counsular office of the embassy in Beijing and stop all military cooperation.
I've had it with the "half pregnant" status. 70 years is enough - either declare independence or reassimilate.
I have been to mainland China many times. The ROC does not want to be like the mainland. FReegards!
