We’re Looking at a New Divide Within the Hispanic Community’

(Snip)

The Latino vote in Florida upended the Clinton campaign’s strategy, and what we thought we knew about where politics is headed. Chalk it up to a kind of cynical Latina wariness, but I never felt convinced that Hillary Clinton would win the general election. Yet as reports poured in about the historic number of Latinos lining up to vote early in Miami, I felt 100 percent certain that the state would remain blue. After all, Cuban-American members of Congress like Carlos Curbelo and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen had refused to endorse Trump. In October, following the “Access Hollywood” scandal, Ros-Lehtinen called on Trump to withdraw from the campaign. When Hillary Clinton appeared at a Miami concert with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, a stadium-size crowd showed up.

So when Florida turned red, I was stunned — especially after I saw the demographic breakdowns. Nearly one in three Latino voters in Florida cast their ballots for Trump. According to a CNN and Latino Decisions exit poll, his support among Cuban-American voters was even higher: 54 percent. “Definitely there was a hidden, secret Latino vote,” Jorge Ramos, the Univision news anchor, told me. “We’re seeing a new divide within the Hispanic community. The wall that Trump was talking about is clearly apparent now within the Hispanic community.”

This pro-Trump vote didn’t feel quite as secret to Roberto Rodríguez Tejera. Every day, he told me, people called into to his South Florida Spanish-language talk-radio show, “Contacto Directo,” to express their support for Trump. Rural white voters, he explained, aren’t the only ones frightened by the specter of feminism, Muslim immigrants and L.G.B.T. rights. “For many Hispanic Americans, the cultural changes of the past 15 years have been very hard. Trump, for many, is a return to the mother’s womb.”

Uh-oh... The brown man is not at controllable as the black man. They tend to think for themselves. I smell trouble for the race-baiting Democrat party.

Good to read.

President Trump made a concerted effort to reach out to Hispanic voters (and to black voters) and it worked. Good news.

At the NYT, the insult to conservatives must appear within the first 3 paragraphs.

Marcella Valdes up in NYC felt 100% CERTAIN what the Florida Latinas would do and she was knocked back on her heels.............

Gee Marcella, just because you’re Hispanic and a woman doesn’t mean you have your finger on the pulse of ALL Latinas.......such an iconic awe-inspiring word...(we all heard about the “wise Latina” on the USSC).....

What media is trying to do with these women of Hispanic descent is box and trademark them as some kind of expert for anything Latina. It’s about as ridiculous saying I’m an authority and expert in all things white-man, politically or otherwise. I am so sick of this race pandering in media.

Nearly one in three Latino voters in Florida cast their ballots for Trump>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Because they were American patriots who know and observe their duty to uphold and defend the Constitution. Many were likely connected to the military.

Not all Latinos are La Raza style traitors.Only 1/2 to 2/3rds are.

Dems will deport any Latino not voting their way. We all knew this day would come. Well at least the dems can up their Islam imports to help offset their lost slaves.

Wow. So now they turn on Hispanic voters and say they voted out of homophobia, Islamophobia and misogyny, basically.

They are SUCH Pieces OF ####!

NOW hispanics can read what the Times and the dems really think about them. Second class citizens good for a vote.

And if Cubans only went 54 percent for Trump, that means Puerto Ricans and others had to go at least 25 percent or better for Trump to take a third of the hispanic vote.

Good.

WHAT IRONY WE ENDED UP NOT NEEDING IT!!!!!!!!!

Trump has the MOST NARROW pathway to 270 in the history of elections!!! :)

The previous governor of Puerto Rico is Freedom Caucus Republican. The two previous presidents of Mexico are Republican(PAN). Calderon is a law-n-order social conservative. Fox is a libertarian leaning Wall Street Republican. PAN, the party of devout Christians and small business, is very popular in northern Mexico.

It also happens that some Hispanics like a macho leader but won’t vote for a chickified metro-sexual.

Many on all sides are ignorant of political reality.

When I got 100% of the Hispanic vote in a heavily Hispanic suburb it wasn’t coincidence.

That Republicans write off the Hispanic vote is the main reason Republicans don’t do better with Hispanics.

Of course, Republicans wrote off the Rust Belt in previous years and that is why they didn’t do well there.

Groups like conservative CLI-Campaign Leadership Institute teach a strategy to candidates and professional consultants that writes off Blue and Purple people.

Trump proved them all wrong.

Get FOR GREATER GLORY (aka Cristiada) on DVD with Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria if you want to understand how Mexicans view politics.

I’ll tell you why. The Latinos know that unchecked immigration will lead to the very kind of hell holes from which they fled...

I've asked this question many times, but never gotten a response: Isn't it racist to assume that there's one "hispanic" vote? The attempt to lump together everyone from south of the border always seemed either clueless or an attempt to marginalize voters.

President-Elect Trump did allude to it in the later stages of the campaign. If the dems weren't so arrogant they'd have been listening to what he said, and adjusted. He spoke to the specific concerns of Haitians and Cubans, and other specific groups, that did not much care for the stereotype.

It's not a new divide, it's the democrats suddenly realizing that when they dismissed the Latino community by stating "Oh, they are all the same..." then believing they would vote for Hillary was complete idiocy combined with disdain for minorities. If they had a little respect for Latinos they would have recognized that they are many peoples with distinct cultures and heritage who simply share a common language.

But socialists are loathe to recognize "the individual". It doesn't compute with a collectivist mindset and totalitarian ideology.

That’s right; Dems projected onto all Hispanics the NYC multi-generational Puerto Rican stereotype, ignoring the fact that 1) many Hispanics want the American Dream (the one that involves working for a better future for themselves and especially their children), and 2) they are more traditional than many “whites” in terms of families.

Lumping Hispanics, who come from a couple of dozen countries, is like trying to lump whites; good luck!
