Donald Trump and his Republican allies are 'ready to slash the federal work force, impose hiring freezes and halt automatic pay raises'
If President-elect Donald Trump and his Republican colleagues in Congress have their way, government employees will be easier to fire and they will have their pensions reduced, aides and lawmakers say.
The incoming administration and its allies on Capitol Hill are planning to try and trim the public sector work force, in line with campaign promises to roll back government benefits, The Washington Post reported on Monday.
With Republicans in control of both houses of the legislature as well as the executive branch, they now have a chance to enact reforms which federal employees once thought they were immune from, including lower pensions, hiring freezes, a halt to automatic raises, and a crackdown on publicly funded union business.

I live within 100 miles of Washington DC (York County, PA) and know people who work for contractors and commute down.
If you read my comments, the “military industrial complex” plays a big role in our politics.
Rush Limbaugh spoke of the Iran deal being favorable to Boeing and other companies and how it was.
First sanctions get lifted, Boeing does spare parts business with Iran.
Iran is now stronger so the Gulf Arabs are afraid. In comes Boeing with sales like the one to Qatar and Kuwait announced recently.
Reimposing sanctions on Iran was big chest beating issue for GOP politicians in the last election, the same politicos like John McCain who are in the back pocket of the defense industry.
10,000,000 more federal employees than Americans working in manufacturing. Fire 75% of them and govt will run far more efficiently.
Very true. I will agree that the government has grown into an entity of monstrous proportions, but someone like me who works at a local military base shouldn't be lumped into agencies that clearly go beyond the scope of what the government is supposed to do. That's my beef with all of the fedgov hatred displayed here on FR. My whole job is making sure the planes fly.
Well govt employees did not get a raise for 3 years under Obamacare. But I’m sure his cronies did.
I couldnt care less. Given the state of education in this country, their Department is either ineffectual or part of the problem - not the solution.
In fact, one can say that about the government in general.
The reason I picked the Department of Education is because it is a prime example of a useless agency trying to perform functions that are best handled locally. I suspect that not many of its employees are FReepers.
Many agencies have valid functions, but have bloated beyond their original charter. Those should be pruned.
I do happen to work for the federal government.
