“I’ve a feeling that most of the FReepers who work for the federal government actually work in agencies that have useful and needed functions.

If the Department of Education were cut or eliminated, how many FReepers do you think that would affect?”

I couldn’t care less. Given the state of “education” in this country, their “Department” is either ineffectual or part of the problem - not the solution.

In fact, one can say that about the government in general.

Amen, if an agency such as the Department of Education is found by the American people to be Un-necessary or Harmful to America it should be closed.

Employees should be given severance and that should be that!

All Freepers will lament ANY Freeper losing his or her job.

The reason I picked the Department of Education is because it is a prime example of a useless agency trying to perform functions that are best handled locally. I suspect that not many of its employees are FReepers.

Many agencies have valid functions, but have bloated beyond their original charter. Those should be pruned.

I do happen to work for the federal government.
