The “red” counties in the north would then secede from the new country of California and form the state of Jefferson. There’s stuff out there to make California up to six states.

I’m all for breaking CA up into mulitple states. 50 is a nice round number, but I could live w/o it.
I think there are enough idiots on the left who think this is a great idea, and enough right-wing guys for “Jefferson” to make this actually happen.
In my scenario...they would succeed, then find that folks in Jefferson want statehood with US, and they’d vote to succeed from the Republic of California. One-third of republic would disappear, and they’d start talking about the problems of security almost immediately.
