A U.S. service member was killed by an improvised explosive device in northern Syria on Thursday, the Pentagon announced in a statement.
The service member was killed near Ayn Issa, a town roughly 35 miles northwest of the Islamic States self-proclaimed capital of Raqqa.
The death marks the first time a U.S. service member has been killed in the country since a contingent of Special Operations forces were deployed there in October 2015 to go after the extremist group.

On Thanksgiving day, no less...
On the bright side, if there can be one to this story, the media can start reporting on what our soldiers are doing after January 20th.
When did we invade Syria? I don’t remember readig about a declaration of war.
You must be referring to that outdated, racist Constitution thingy that Democrats hate so much.
“...fighting the Islamic State...”
We dishonor our dead by not challenging the Obama/MSM Big Lie about which side of this conflict they are dying for.
Soldier died fighting Bath House’s personal war, on the side of the islamic terrorists. Tragic. What a waste.
RIP.
Secret wars. Now Zero is emulating Johnson and Nixon. On the other hand, this is ISIS, which everybody wants to take out. So, is there a problem or isn’t there? I’m neutral.
Not Bush but the leftist neocons (who share the same goals as the right-wing neocons). Endless war for endless peace. And a world controlled by globalist elites and eradication of the cross of Christ.
Both left and right neocons are progeny of the Bolsheviks, who had the very same goal. Communism was merely used as the bulldozer to destroy nation states and to clear the way for the one-world government controlled by the elites through finance.
What does it say about the GOP that allows them to continue this madness. They are all the same.
Please say a prayer for this hero, his family, and friends.
