Is that WHY Fidel owned a private island paradise vacation home, had many mansions, a yacht, and many, many 100s of millions of USA dollars socked away, as the populace starved and lived in wretched conditions?

“True believer” is what I’d call the saps that fall for the communist marketing plan, not the ones on top that know what their doing.
Communists promise economic equality but they can only do that by eliminating property rights (which includes your cash) and distributing “fairly”.
What that means, in effect, is the gov (more importantly, those running the gov) own EVERYTHING, keep what they want for themselves and toss the scraps to you and me.
Fidel and his family knew/know EXACTLY what they’re doing.
True believers are those that actually BELIEVE the commie tripe.
So why was he rich while the rest of the country was poor?
He was a true communist leader. He takes 98 out of 100 while graciously allowing the peasants to share the 2.

I’ll go to a proven leftist moron like Eugene Robinson for my research on Fidel Castro, next time I feel a need to check what I already know. I know I simply must be missing some glimmer of wonderfulness and altruism from an otherwise ruthless mass-murderer, terrorist, and thief.

Fidel Castro is not really dead. He’s actually working as a cashier at a small truck stop outside Adair, Oklahoma. Jimmy Hoffa owns the place. Jim Morrison works the parts counter and Elvis runs the diner next door.

Castro didn't like "income equality" when he was at the bottom.
So, he got enough people to revolt against Batista, then installed himself in Batista's place.
All he did was depose one tyrant, and replace him with another tyrant -- himself.
I saw an interview with a Cuban citizen (now in USA) claiming the Castro was great because he always fought for his people. I laughed out loud.
