After a dinner meeting with Donald Trump at Jean-Georges restaurant in New York, Mitt Romney delivered a glowing review of the president-elect’s leadership during the transition.
Mr. Romney, who was invited to the dinner purportedly for a follow-up interview for the job of secretary of state, described it as a “wonderful evening” and said that he was “impressed” with Mr. Trump’s handling of his upset victory in the election.
“We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions I’ve had with him have been enlightening, and interesting, and engaging,” Mr. Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, told reporters outside the restaurant.
Mr. Romney said that from what he’s seen of Mr. Trump’s leadership during the transition, he was optimistic that “America’s best days are ahead of us.

I’m inclined to agree with you. Trump should be cautious about putting too many people that opposed him and are not on the same page as him, into positions of power. Wouldn’t trust any of them to not undermine him.

This groveling snit will not be respected by foreign leaders during important negotiations. He has no gravitas or courage of conviction to support a firm position.
He’s folded like a wet paper bag every time we’ve seen him face a formidable opponent. Think the Chinese will treat him with respect? They will laugh at him, just like they did Obama. How about the Russians? The Iranians, the Saudis etc.?
His weakness will undermine Trumps efforts at building a muscular position from which to renegotiate foreign and financial policy.
Gosh, I agree. The only way I would be satisfied is if Mitt had put a crown on Trump’s head and then bowed. I am just so upset.

If this is part of some ‘rehab’ process to make Romney Secretary of State, I’ll have no part of it.
DT met with Henry Kissinger a few weeks back. In the middle of the 1960’s when Mitt’s father was the GOP frontrunner for 1968,uber RINO Nelson Rockefeller ‘loaned out’ Kissinger to George Romney as a foreign policy advisor.
Rockefeller suffered politically in the 1960’s in his quest to be POTUS because of his divorce and quick second marriage to a younger woman, so he was figuring Romney would carry the Liberal Republican mantle into the WH.
Romney is Rockefeller Republican RINO all the way.
Maybe Trump offered Romney the job of Ambassador to France and Monaco; replacing Jane Hartley. We may remember that Romney spent 2½ years in France as a Mormon missionary. He is fluent in French. This would be like old times for Romney.
I remember that Trump did endorse Romney and thought he would be a good president. Nothing has changed that opinion. I do not believe that Trump will stab conservatives in the back on this. I can live with Romney as SoS, but not with Trump having to expend political capital or diminish his standing with his base to hire him.
As much as I detest Romney, he is still more conservative than ANY head of state he will ever meet with. Maybe excepting Marie la Pen if she has any chance.
Romney was almost the president. The rest of the world will treat him with deference and respect from day 1. Trump will have no difficulty managing him, and he will do a good job.
The real silver lining is that Romney will be out of the country most of the time.
But at that point the Bushes had already dispatched two presidents that weren’t working out for them, so they weren’t concerned when Reagan won. They tried to get him too, but docs saved his life. And disgusting poppy made it to the WH the old fashioned way.
It sounds like he is going with Mitt. We need to hear Trump explain why. We need to thank our lucky stars that at least we have President Trump and that he may be making sausage here, but we have got him and not the Clintons. We’ll have to be ok with it for now.

Because I have to believe Trump destroyed Romney at that dinner, and by proxy Priebus. Priebus just likes the pain.

I imagine that Trump is smart and savvy enough not to let them shiv him in the back. And if they try, they’re out.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a conservative majority; we have a conservative plurality. Until we can oust more RINOs in 2018, we have to do some distasteful compromises in order to get enough support.
I don’t like some of these people, but if they’re enough to get a majority in Congress for #MAGA, I’ll manage.
