Narendra Modi Holds Strong Lead in TIME’s Person of the Year Reader’s Poll [WTH?]

The Indian prime minister holds 18% of all "yes" votes

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a solid lead in TIME’s Person of the Year Reader’s Poll with 18% of all “yes” votes as of Tuesday evening.

[SNIP]

Each year, TIME selects the person who has, for better or for worse, impacted the news the most in the past year. The magazine’s editors always make the final Person of the Year selection, but this poll is a way for readers to voice their own opinions on who has made the greatest impact on the world in 2016. For 2016, TIME—in partnership with Opentopic and IBM’s Watson—is also able to track and compare influence in a whole new way. Opentopic worked with Watson to track how candidates made their mark on the Internet, in order to create a picture of what the world is saying about the people and ideas that matter. TIME’s editors used this information while finalizing the list for the Person of the Year reader poll.

Vote here: Who Should Be TIME’s Person of the Year for 2016?

Voting on the reader’s choice poll ends Dec. 4, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

In years past, a president elect would be a strong contender or winner of this award. This time Trump isn’t even in the running??? What the heck??? He’s not a big newsmaker, for being an outsider who won the presidential election, upset Tue political applecart, etc??? He’s not even a contender????

I agree. He literally has much of the world aligned against him, like no President Elect ever, AFAIK. He has people around the world changing policies already, and Jill Stein has not even conceded yet! He was not expected to win, yet he won, and resoundingly, winning states not won by the GOP since the 1980s. He has been THE news story of more than a year, worldwide.

Is this the same publication that once named Hitler the ‘man of the year’?

Thought so...

Shoot---I thought it would be Hillary! First Female President! Breaker of the Glass Ceiling!

By Time's standards, David the Giant-Slayer could not have made the short list!

Is this the publication who could not bring themselves to name Rush Limbaugh the man of the year, so they named The Pope?

If they pick anyone but Trump, it just confirms their bias and picayune mindlessness................

I’m curious. The two or so times Time chose Hitler and Man of the Year - was that a reader vote?

Don't worry.

Trump is a lock for the Nobel Peace Prize.

It’s naked bias. If Time keeps up this business model of trying to shape perceptions instead of covering news honestly, my weekly shoppers guide will have a larger circulation and may have greater influence, too.
