Was he the skipper when Sculpin hastily put to sea from the Philippines later that day?

Somewhere I have that skipper’s account of his time on the Sculpin in the early days of the war, before it was sunk in the Gilberts in 1943.

He was indeed the skipper of Sculpin at the opening of WWII, and he would very likely have been in the Philippines. CMDR Lucius Henry Chappell. He racked up a significant record of taking out Japanese vessels of many kinds before turning command over to his successor when the war was well under way.
Thank you for your interest!

How exciting! It might be something for Naval historical archives.
