How does John Bolton stack up against other SecState contenders?

...... let us see how four candidates fare: Governor Mitt Romney, General David Petraeus, New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Ambassador John Bolton.

Romney, Petraeus, and Giuliani would not hit the ground running day one. By the time they are up to speed, more than likely several months later, State's career diplomats will have figured out how to maneuver around whatever changes might come their way. This would happen because the local team inherently has a field advantage over the visitors. As former U.N. ambassador, Bolton knows State as well as Mattis knows the Pentagon.

Mittens-----Nope! Too big a part of the gopE cabal.

Petraeus----Nope! Can't keep a secret and is part of margabby kellygiffords anti-2nd amendment group.

Giuliani----Maybe

Bolton------My pick of these 4. But, my opinion don't matter. Yet.

Bolton’s comments on Faux Gnews over the past few years have always struck me as being on the mark.

Somehow I think Mittens will con Trump and wind up with the appointment.

These are all very flawed candidates. I'd rank them in the following order:

1. Giuliani
2. Romney
3. Bolton
DQ. Petraeus (disqualified due to criminal record)

They can't possibly be seriously considering Petraeus as a candidate for this post.

The longer the selection process goes on, the better chance Bolton has imo.

Jebbie must be irate that he is not in the running since George P. endorsed Trump.

Bolton knows when to play ‘em, and he knows when to fold.

Bolton's long track record as a "neo-con" globalist should remove him from any consideration for this position.

I probably speak for a lot of Freepers when I point out that I didn't support Trump just so he could fill his cabinet with the same @ssholes that Jeb Bush would have hired.

The red flags on Bolton are his neocon credentials and ties to the Bush clan. He’s more than qualified for the job, but if he’s the pick Trump will keep him on a short leash with maybe a handler or two in the wings to keep him in line. I don’t know if Bolton is the kind of person who would agree with terms like that, but anyone with connections to the neocon globalists needs to be shadowed constantly. In the end I don’t think Bolton will be the pick either.

I’m ok with Bolton as long as Trump keeps him chained up away from the neoCons. Absolutely no on Petraeus and Corker. Romney falls somewhere in between Bolton and the others. I’m against him but not as much as I oppose Corker and Petraeus. I could choke Romney down as long as he toes the Trump line. I’m confident that Trump will not hesitate to fire anyone who goes rogue (cf. Christie).

Rudy’s best role is as he is now, a freelancing commentator.

Here's a big red flag for me on Bolton:

Trump has made a big deal about having prospective nominees to these senior administration positions sign agreements that they will not work as lobbyists for five years after they leave their positions in the Trump administration.

I'm more concerned about what these people have been doing for the last 5-10 years BEFORE now. That's what should have disqualified Hillary Clinton from any consideration for a presidential run, isn't it?

If I were Trump, I wouldn't hire anyone to one of these positions who has worked directly for foreign interests in the last ten years, or has worked for any organizations that derive more than a tiny portion of their revenues from foreign interests.

A lot of people say things like you two did.

This article puts some perspective on it.

The Center for Security Policy seems to be Frank Gaffney’s organization. Some stories say Trump has picked Gaffney as a transition advisor.
