Rex Tillerson, Exxon Mobile’s XOM 0.51% CEO, is in the running for a new job: Donald Trump’s Secretary of State.

The Wall Street Journal, citing an unnamed transition adviser, reports that the energy executive is set to set to meet with Trump for an interview this week. Tillerson’s interview comes after Trump aides said the President-elect had settled on four finalists. But Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway said Sunday that “there’s not a finite list of candidates,” adding that there’s “more than four.”

Most notably, Trump is considering 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. He is also considering West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin and California Republican Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, the Journal reports.

I’d almost feel need for Romney; its like Trump only “considered” him to get him to admit that Trump did something Mitt didn’t do: WIN

Manchin would probably be better than Iran-nuke-treaty-pusher Bob Corker.

I’d happily take Rex Tillerson for EPA too.

Your typical overseas oil company project superintendant has a surprising amount of hands-on experience in dealing with foreign governments, military, police, bureaucrats, at every level top to bottom.

An oil company president, just that much more, they are used to negotiating deals at all levels which have to be enforced without any help from the US government, this isn’t the old days these days. These days the embassy isn’t going to stick its neck out for you, you have to figure it out. Your oil exec probably has more national presidents on his rolodex than any ambassador. And he probably knows their wives and kids.

I dare say the average oil company guy has a better understanding about how the world works than the typical State Department dweeb. So this may not be a bid idea.

Although I have extensive experience as an SOS, I will not accept the position of SOS in President Trump's administration.

That is not to say I don't love SOS for breakfast...

Trump knows what we think of Romney. I hope he’s playing with him the way Romney played with the voters.

Makes no sense. A better fit for an Exxon CEO would be Secretary of Energy.

After running a company the size of Exxon, Rex could run the State Department in his sleep. He’s plenty sharp enough for that job.

I doubt that it’ll happen though.
